So WHO told us to be afraid of the El Salvador police?

We are now in El Salvador. We landed in San salvador at around 3pm and made our way to Casa Clementina. Judith and her daughter have rooms for rent in their house. We even got hugs. ok...San Salvador, a little scary. Not going to lie to you. We walked a block to get pupusas which are a local favorite (Corn dough filed with cheese, beans and meat filled like a pocket) and Grilled on an open fire. Yum. On our walk, 1 block away mind you, we saw an armed guard carrying an M16. This is in a residential neighborhood. A few gunshots in the middle of the night. Feels like home actually. We were a little skiddish to leave our compound afer dark so we watched SWAT on satelight in our outdoor livingroom/patio.

SO...this morning we catch what we think is a "ride" to the mountain town Juyayau and end up on a tour of 4 towns and a waterfall hike. 2 of the towns were having celebartions. It was actually very sweet. Juyayua was our original destination because every sunday they have the "festival de gastronomica". No joke. That is really the name. Food as far as the eye can see. We were told to try the pupusas (which we already had), Yucca (which is a plantain covered in shredded pork, vinegar cole slaw and broth - yum), conjeho (rabbit - which tastes like very good chicken), and atol de elote (a super yum sweet corn mashed up like oatmeal)...and much much more.

Our driver gave us flash backs of Thailand, except the speeds are mush faster. We think he ran atleast 4 guys off the road.

Tomorrow we are catching a bus to the boarder into Guatemala.
