More Beijing

Beijing is a city of 14 Million with a rich history where we could Just spend the rest our trip exploring. After 4 days we feel we have missed more than we have seen.

The Summer Palace built for the Qing Dynasty Emperors surrounds a man made lake with beautiful gardens. It was build to escape the hot Beijing summers. One of the highlights is a 700m long corridor which is said to be decorated with over 13,000 paintings as it makes is way gracefully to the Marble Boat. Along the way one catches glimspes of the majestic Tower of the Fragrance of the Buddha which is best viewed on the dragon boat we ride back accross the lake to the start of the long corridor.

A bicycle rickshaw ride takes us through local housing areas call Hutongs. We visited the home of an elderly lady whose father purchased the home from a Ming General. The kids had a picture with her while she was holding her childhood picture.

We only had time for quick visit at the zoo to only see the giant pandas. It was worth it to see eight cubs together having their usualy breakfast of bamboo!

Tian Tan commonly known as the Temple of Heaven is a beautiful park. On Sunday when we visited we caught a glimpse of how local people spent their leisure time as we walked to the Hall of Prayer for the Good Harvest - an inspiring round temple beautifully restored.

Food was delicious and the girls loved the shopping - Awesome prices!
