The Hope Distribution Center is on the same property as the Catholic College of Mandeville and the Catholic School of Technology on 66 Calednonia Road.

We were given a tour of the Hope Distribution Center - a center that holds and distributes all donated goods to the various sectors in the diocese. It's a large warehouse that holds goods of all kinds: clothing, shoes, bedding, mattresses, etc. There's a Book Room too. If books and school or office supplies are donated, then schools are called to come and pick them up.

The diocese is divided into areas of responsibilty, so donations of clothing, for example, get parcelled out to those with demonstrated needs. We saw a motorized wheelchair that had been donated. The recipient had been chosen, but because there was no 'manual' with the wheelchair, there was a delay in getting it to her until someone could figure out how the electronics worked. We hope to be able to go on-line when we get back home, to search for the manual that provides instruction for its use. The sooner the disabled women gets the wheelchair, the better!

While we were taking a tour of the Hope Distribution Centre, we saw all the college students going to classes. There is a teacher training school here as well as two technology centers - one for automotives and one with training programs in the food and beverage industry.

We stopped to converse with the instructor and students in the automotives centre. They were working on an engine block at the time. You can also see the trench for working underneath the vehicles. We got into some instant conversations about their program and the work we were doing, but we had to be pulled away to get our own work done at the warehouse.

Today, as part of our mission to serve the Housing Ministy, we'll clear and reorganize the warehouse where all the house construction materials are stored.
