Tonight's camp in Greenfield, IN

Happy Halloween #1

Happy Halloween #2

Yesterday was another lazy day in camp. It was actually cold most of the day, starting off with 40 degrees in the rig when we got up in the morning. Even running the heater most of the morning didn't raise it up high enough to be comfortable without wearing double layers of socks and sweatshirts. It was enough for us to say, let's get the heck outta here! The local paper says this is the beginning of the snow season for this area.

John watched his football games during the afternoon while I read and played on the computer. In the evening, Bruce and Ginny picked us up and we went to dinner at one of their favorites places in South Bend, The Studebaker Place, a three story house which has been converted into a restaurant. It was originally the home of one of the Studebaker brothers who made their fortunes first building wagons and then automobiles. The home/restaurant was magnificent with beautiful woodworking and wood paneling throughout. There are a total of 39 rooms with 20 fireplaces. We had a splendid meal and once again enjoyed the company of good friends.

We said our goodbyes to Bruce and Ginny after dinner. It was good to see how well they are doing and how wonderful their two kids are. Visiting and laughing with an old friend is like going home and I was so glad we got the opportunity to come and visit them.

This morning, we were up and out at first light- around 8:00 am. The days are definitely getting shorter now. This morning was warmer than the day before and the sun was shining brightly by the time we hit Highway 31 and turned south towards Indianapolis. The highway was four lanes but traffic was light and we wound through farmland and fall colors and enjoyed the laid back trip. The trees have lost their spark of color and we feel we were lucky to have hit the fall colors when we did.

This morning, gas was $2.87 in Granger but John wanted to wait until we were farther south to top off. As we got closer to our destination, he stopped for gas at $2.63 a gallon. That is half of what we paid for gas in Alaska and Canada this summer. Right after he filled up, we saw a station that had gas for $2.59 a gallon near Indianapolis.

This afternoon, we are staying at the S and H RV Park in Greenfield, Indiana, which is a suburb of Indianapolis. We have decided not to do any sightseeing here this time and instead, want to continue on further south, actually southeast into Kentucky. This park is very pretty, is located out in the country and is very quiet. It is actually full of RVs which the owners say are workers on the pipe line. We rate this park a 5. It is nice for an overnight stay. Jules enjoyed sitting on the table and sniffing the air here, so there must be something on the wind.
