During our short stay in Casselton, North Dakota we drove to Jamestown and saw the World’s Largest Buffalo Monument, the National Buffalo Museum, and the sites of Louis L’Amour’s Boyhood Home and the Franklin School he attended. We also saw Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City. At 9:35 am we left Governors Inn and Conference Center RV Park. The wind was very chilly, the skies were clear, and it was 42˚. Rick’s new jacket and my new pants and gloves really helped against the wind. We used the side road, turned right onto Governors Road, and merged onto I-94 West. At Exit 260, in Jamestown, we stopped for diesel. At $3.72 per gallon we got 6.9 mpg. After getting back onto I-94 West we took Exit 256 onto 52 west. While driving through Melville we saw a sign for Reimers Seed Company. Reimer was my maiden name. During our past several travel days we had seen a lot of yellow ribbons on telephone and light poles and over bridges. On this trip we saw very few cattle, sheep, or horses. We wondered if it was because it gets so much colder in the winter in this part of North Dakota. Outside of Harvey we stopped at a Rest Area and Rick had lunch. It was only 49˚ at 1:00 pm. East of Velva we saw an ADM processing plant. ADM stands for Archer Daniels Midland. They produce a great amount of ethanol. We remembered seeing Bob Dole as spokesman for this company. Our Google directions said to turn onto US 2 east. This would have taken us back the way we had come. We took US 2 west and after 1 mile we were to look for 13th Street SE. After going about 3 miles we hadn’t seen it. After driving back on US 2 we still weren’t able to find the street we needed. Rick called the RV Park but we must not have been clear about where we were because the directions didn’t get us to the right street. The Park was on 20th AVE SW. We finally found 20th AVE NW and decided to follow it going in a southwest direction. It worked! We drove into Swenson’s Valley View RV Park in Minot, North Dakota at 3:15 pm. It was also a Holiday Rambler dealership. About 35 miles of our 272-mile trip was used to find the RV Park. There had been snow in the area the previous Sunday. Thankfully it was all gone since it was 50˚ with clear skies! The Park’s water faucets had been winterized. When Rick went to turn the water on nothing came out. He called the office and someone came and realized they hadn’t opened the frost-free water valve. He stamped it further into the ground and turned the valve. We then had water. Once we locked onto the satellite everything worked well! We haven’t liked that it had been getting darker so much earlier. When it did get dark we noticed that outside there were ropes of lights around the landscaping next to each site. We were located on top of a hill and could look out over part of Minot. The lights at night were pretty. It was a pleasant sight with the lights of Minot in the distance and the rope lights. We watched the last Presidential Debate. It was interesting. Because it had gotten so much colder we turned on a “drizzle” of water before going to bed.
