Writing on the road to Verona, VA (west of Charlottesville, VA)
I’m trying to catch up on our blog on the road today. Without Wifi in Newport News, I’m a few days behind.
We had a great day with our friend Charlie seeing the sights in Norfolk area. Charlie is retired Navy so we were able to drive around on the Navel Base. Very interesting. We were out looking at one of the markers on the base on the edge of the bay and saw a school of dolphins swimming off shore. That was a plus. Grabbed a bite at the commissary food court and then headed downtown to the Nauticus Museum. The battleship Wisconsin is docked outside the museum. Lots of great Naval history in this museum. We then went back to Charlie’s apartment to let his pups relieve themselves before heading back out to our RV for a dinner of Missouri brats and lots more of great conversation with Charlie. (In our stop by Charlie’s place, his one dog entertained us with her jazz singing while the neighbor boy played harmonica). Quite a show!
Charlie stayed almost until midnight. We hated to see him leave. He was a great tour guide and historian for the area. If you’re in the area let me know, I’ll give you his number!
As I stated earlier, we are headed west on I-64 to the other side of Charlottesville, VA. Had a heck of a time finding an RV park. All were full. Guess it’s the fall colors and Halloween activities. We will stay until Monday. Going to do historic stuff one day and tour the wineries the other all around Charlottesville.
Spoke with Darren a couple times about Nathan’s healing process from tonsillectomy. He’s doing great. Did some kind of new process using “cold” according to Darren. Said I’d have to get scoop from Sherry on it. Big problem is he’s giving them fits on taking his medicine. But he’s 4, what do you expect!
Posting pictures of some of the sights we saw on our day out with Charlie.
Got to the RV park about mid afternoon. This is a big park, big and all kinds of stuff going on this weekend for Halloween. It’s packed with mainly tents, pop ups, 5th wheels & pull behinds and tons of kids. Only a few of us “big rigs”. They are doing all kinds of events all weekend for kids. Have a DJ tonight, trick-or-treating tomorrow and a contest for the best decorated sight. We look like the atheists at Christmas, no decorations! But we aren’t staying around the park for the next two days.
Took a drive west of here into the mountains this afternoon. Once the sun comes out tomorrow. Beautiful colors.
Take care ~ God Bless ~ Vicki
PS: Have to tell our RVing friends a “funny”, the other night when we had dinner in Durham with Jim’s cousin and wife, we’d been talking about Harvey and tried to explain to them how much fun this is and how nice it is staying in the RV. They did not get to see Harvey. Well, guess we didn’t get out point across, because as we were leaving she said, “So are you going to do something fun, like stay in a really nice hotel on this trip?” I said, nope, we haul the best hotel room in the area around with us! They just don’t get it!
