San Martín de los Andes was our first stop in Argentina. It is apparently a very popular holiday destination among Argentinians, although there was an out-of-season quietness about the place while we were there. As well as this, it didn't offer us anything we hadn't just seen in Pucón.
It sits on a picturesque lake and is overlooked by forested hills, and trekking, rafting etc. are all available, but we've become so spoilt with all the stuff we've seen on our trip so far that this wasn't enough to hold our attention, and we left after a day.
In fact the thing that impressed me most about San Martín was it's collection of old Renaults and Citröens still being driven about town like we were in some kind of 1988 timewarp. They even use an old Routemaster London bus for the sightseeing tours.
Nice place, but not enough to beat the excellent Pucón- on to the next.
