Thankfully, we got to pass some of this long line of semis

Rainy day in Michigan

You don't see one of these every day--especially on the back of...

Today's vision of beauty!

The ten kilometer train of 18-wheelers was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen! We were that far from the border--10 kilometers, and the traffic came to a grinding halt. The right lane was filled with one semi after another as far as the eye could see. We basically turned off the engine, started preparing lunch and had a bite to eat. We thought we needed to eat up all our produce before we crossed the border so we wolfed down an awful lot of veggies. Opa got out and had a little visit with others around us. Nobody knew what the hold up was, but they said that this was definitely not normal! When we finally got there, we learned that the jam was caused by construction on the bridge over St. Claire River that separates Canada from United States. St. Claire River joins Lake Huron to Lake Erie. It was pretty incredible--just another part of the adventure, I say!

Aimee’s Highlights:

This is our final week on our cross-Canada trip but ironically, we are going to be in the U.S.A. We drove from Toronto to a little place called Coloma, Michigan and it was a full day of driving. The trees that we saw were full of bright red, orange and yellow. It was BE-U-T-ful! We were also caught in a ten kilometer line up of semi trucks while we were trying to get across the border. During the drive, we also saw a semi truck that had an army tank on the back. It was cool! The other thing that was neat, today, had to do with driving but also involved hockey. Since the Calgary Flames started playing hockey, Ben and I made posters and hung them up on the motor home. One of them says, “If you love the Flames, HONK!” We have gotten about ten honks. Yesterday I was so happy because the Flames won their first hockey game! Tomorrow we will be going through Chicago on our way to Madison, Wisconsin.

Mackenzie’s Highlights:

Today we didn’t do much but drive, but I did see a couple of things that were exciting. At one point, we were driving along and a semi-truck pulled ahead of us with a huge army tank on its flatbed. There was a car behind it with a sign that said, “OVER-SIZED LOAD.” It was so cool because it’s not every day that you see a tank on a flatbed pull up beside you! The second exciting thing wasn’t very exciting. There was a 10 km line of semi-trucks all waiting for a toll booth to get across a bridge. It was exciting to see such a long line of semis but it wasn’t exciting because it took a long time for us to get to the toll, and it was soooo boring!
