On March 24, 1945, Daddy's convoy of boats passed Bataan and Corregidor where they paid tribute to Corregidor which is an Island which partially blocks Manilla Bay, the finest natural harbor in the Orient. The Battle of Corregidor was the culmination of the Japanese campaign for the conquest of the Philippines. Corregidor fell to the Japanese forces on May 6, 1942. US Troops under General Douglas MacArthur re-took Corregidor on February 26, 1945.
Bataan is the landmass to the north of Corregidor and thus forms the northwest part of Manila Bay. When Bataan fell, more than 60,000 Filipino and 15,000 US prisoners of war were forced into the infamous Bataan Death March.
