We went to downtown Memphis at the river front and took the trolley to Beale Street. Beale Street is a different place at 3PM--lots of music and beer! Actually the street is only about 2 blocks long! We left there and drove out to Elvis Pressley Blvd to Marlowe's for bar-b-que. It was great bar-b-que and a really fun place.
On Sunday we went to Graceland and had a really great tour. The house is really not that big but the property is large and really beautiful--lots of trees. Elvis has a ton of awards that are really impressive. He bought Graceland in 1957 for $100,000 when he was 22. Not a bad real estate deal!
At the auto museum, Susan said she had to have a photo of the pink Caddy--so we got one.
We next drove down to Sun Studios where the early Rock and Roll stars got started. It is a really interesting place and really very small. There is one photo of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis and Johnny Cash who got together in 1957 for a jam session and the owner had the famous photo shot. Our tour guide was really great and made the tour a real pleasure. If you get to Memphis, make sure to tour Graceland and Sun Studio.
