Road Trip 08 travel blog

I covered a lot of ground today (thanks to the magic of the Interstate), so I'm in east Oregon already ... it is so COLD here, going below freezing tonight. Decided I will go to Portland for a couple of nights (where it is a little warmer) then come home. BUT, I can't figure out where to stay in Portland.

McMenamins? Too noisy & alcohol oriented

Ace Hotel? Cheap, trendy, & sold out

Somewhere downtown? So expensive...

Any suggestions what to do or see while I'm there?

Update on where I'm staying ... Tried Priceline.com, because how could you not want to do something William Shatner is advertising?

I said I wanted a 3.5 star hotel in downtown Portland, and I "offered" $75 a night. Here's the scary part: Then you put in your credit card info & if Priceline finds a hotel that accepts your offer, you're immediately charged for your whole stay. So, the Marriott accepted my offer. The cheapest room on their hotel website is $159, so that seems a bargain. Hotel prices are so arbitrary.
