Day 128, Oct 6, Today’s Plan; Drive to Long Beach, WA.
It rains most of the night. We pack up while the trees drip on us. The sun tries to come out as we drive away. We get occasional showers. Portland is an hour away and so is shopping. We stop at a shopping center. Lorna looks for shoes and stuff. She is disappointed. I think she needs girls to shop with, not me. We go to another mall. I find a trolling motor and she finds books. Sort of satisfied we head for the coast. Finally we find real trees. And trucks with a couple of dozen logs on them instead of four hundred. We drive over the Coastal Mountains to Highway 101. It’s good to smell the salt air again. We drive through Seaside. Many restaurants are advertising seafood. Dungeness Crab is the big attraction here. Chowders are second on the list. 101 follows the coast to Astoria, OR. Here we cross into Washington state. The road continues along the coast to Long Beach. We go to Anderson’s RV Park and request a place to camp. They are happy to accommodate us. The site comes with all the amenities including cable tv. We set up just before a front moves in. The wind shakes the trailer and the rain lashes at the windows. The surf pounds in the background. It’s good to be back home again.
