We have had a wonderful week (in spite of the rain) in New Hampshire. There are not enough descriptive words to tell you how beautiful the colors are. We have used every descriptive word and tons of oooohs and aaaahs this week. It started on the way up here last Friday. We all agreed early-on that we would travel on "back" roads as much as possible and last week it was totally the correct choice of travel!!!! It was a gorgeous drive. It is almost more than ones eyes can take in. I will forever have the images in my mind.

We are staying at Crazy Horse Campground in Littleton. The people who own the park, Joe and Barb, are the neatest people. They recommended that we have have breakfast at "Polly's Pancake Parlor" in Sugar Hill, NH. It was awesome. The rustic restaurant is housed in a building that was built in 1830. It was originally used as a carriage house and then for wood storeage until this family (it is still owned and ran by members of the original family)started the pancake house in 1938. It is set with a view of the White Mountains. Great recommendation. The pancakes were very good but, it wouldn't have mattered what the food tasted like because the setting was worth the drive.

Yesterday we went to Montpelier, Vermont to see the smallest capitol city in America. The population of Montpelier is 8411 but, they have a beautiful domed capitol building. On the way to the capitol we stopped at Cabot Cheese Factory. They have a tasting room (yummy) and guided tour which was very interesting. We learned that cheddar cheese is white and only the cheddar cheese that is sent west is colored yellow. (okay. sometimes it doesn't take much to entertain us.)

After we spent some time at the capitol we drove a little farther north to visit the Ben and Jerry Ice Cream Factory which is where it all started. It was a very fun stop. The building is decorated with the same colors and motifs as their ice cream cartons. Very colorful and very cute. AND, OF COURSE, we got to sample the ice cream. YUMMY!

This is going to sound like we ate all day (okay. we did) but, when we left Ben and Jerry's, Neil took another wrong turn and we ended up going 15 miles in the wrong direction. It was getting late so we stopped in Monpelier again and on the recommendation of a lady at Joann's Fabric's, we found a great little local restaurant, Wayside Inn, and had a great dinner. Two roasted pork dinners with soup, mashed potatoes, green beans and a piece of pie with ice cream for just under $20. WOW

I think I have mentioned before (?) that Vivian is an avid quilter and I am "dabbling" a bit. Tuesday we were going to go for a ride through the White Mountains but, it was raining and very cloudy so we couldn't see much. Since we were already "out", we decided to take a ride to Center Harbor, NH which, coincidentally, has the largest quilting store, Keepsake Quilting, in North America. Imagine that. It was overwhelming. There was so much fabric!!!

Tomorrow we leave for Biddeford, Maine and I am on the hunt for good lobster! Will let you know what we find................
