Day 157 Tuesday 16th September Gros Morne National Park pg 127 C17
We endured an extremely windy night with the van rocking and swaying all night. The wind is a result of hurricane Ike which hit Texas a week ago. It is hard to imagine that the weather in the Caribbean flowing through to Newfy.
The morning drive included rain sunshine and wind while heading to Deer Lake where we had lunch, accessed our emails thanks to a local hot spot.
It was only a short drive to Gros Morne NP. By the time we got to the NP we were starting to get some sunshine. The lakes and mountains of the NP are quite spectacular with some villages dotted along the way. At the NP Visitors Centre we were able to get a quick overview of the park. We then went to Norris Point nestled on the shores of Bonnie Bay which opens out to the gulf of St Lawrence. There were several large fishing trawlers docked at the harbour. Speaking to one of the local fishermen, he said these boats were multipurpose and fished for Cod, Mackerel, shrimp and anything else that was going. The fishing season went from May until the end of November.
Tonight we have enjoyed another brilliant sun set and are free camping on the foreshore of Rocky Harbour looking out towards the Gulf of St Lawrence.
