Today was Melissa Holder’s last day with the Corps of Engineers. We had a luncheon in her honor in the break room. For the last five months she had been working at Pat Mayse Lake in northeast Texas, which wasn’t exactly good for her family life because of the long distance. She has taken a position with the U S Fish and Wildlife Service north of here in Oklahoma. Her husband, Tommy, will remain with the Corps but he is on a six-month assignment at Lake Eufaula near McAlester, OK. He drives up there and spends the week, then drives back home. At least his commute isn’t so far as Melissa’s had been.
Because of Hurricane Ike, all Corps of Engineers employees here and in Oklahoma are on high alert. One man was deployed last week to New Orleans but the rest probably will go to the Texas Gulf Coast. Gale-force winds are expected here as Ike moves across Texas and into Arkansas.
