Day 150 Tuesday 9th September North Sydney NS

Happy Birthday Jen A thinking of you, enjoy your day and don’t work too hard … ha ah.

What a wonderful drive we had today, we were rewarded with sunshine and a rugged coastline of the Cabot Trail not to mention the mountains as we entered The Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Following the coast we headed for Pleasant Bay where there was a Whale Interpretive Centre on the edge of a small fishing harbour. The coastal scenery along this trail is quite spectacular with the hills going right to the water’s edge. Although the highest peak is only 450 metres high the road are very steep going from sea level to the top; the road builders weren’t too concerned about maintaining a constant gradient.

Our lunch stop at Neil’s Harbour gave us the opportunity to smell the salt air, get some more photos of the local fishing fleet and watch a local fisherman bait his long line in preparation for going out fishing for Cod. The remainder of the afternoon was spent travelling down the east coast then using a ferry to get to North Sydney where we will catch the Ferry to Newfoundland. Denise was able to find an RV park store their RV at $5 per day while we’re in Newfoundland, their hire company will not allow them to take their RV to Newfy without a hefty charge, so we will all be in our van for the next 7-8 days. Our van is quite spacious so that will not be a problem.
