Eating lots of pizza for Toms birthday

We took the night bus from Natal to Fortaleza, and it was freezing as the air con was set to max !

In Fortaleza we decided to share a taxi with Tom and Nadine to get to Jijoca and then Jericoacoara (Jeri). It was a 3 hour taxi journey with a mad driver who crossed himself everytime he made an overtaking manouver. We then took a 4x4 truck over sand dunes to get to Jeri, which is a small village with sand streets, set on the beach next to a huge sand dune. We arrived at about midday and decided to stay at Pousada Calanda.

We had a walk around in the afternoon and climbed the dune for sunset. We had dinner at a pizzeria (piza Banana), which was good pizza, before heading down to the beach where there were lots of stands selling caiprifrutas and cocktails. We sat around listening to music chatting with Tom and Nadine until about 2.30am

We stayed in Jeri for 6 nights in the end. During this time we took a buggy tour to some lagoons, one of which was quite nice. Tom and Nick impressed the locals with their beach footballing skills ! while Nadine and Monica looked on laughing !!! We also celebrated Tom´s birthday there and had lots of pizza and drinks !

Jeri is a very relaxing place surrounded by huge sand dunes. The town is made up of sand streets and has a large beach. Every evening there are capoeira displays on the beach. There was also a place where it was possible to rent and watch a DVD. We watched several films (sharks tale, matchstick men and VanHelsing).

Eventually it was time to move on and we took a 4x4 across the dunes to Pernaiba.

Pousada Calanda - Lovely place next to the sand dune. Breakfast is amazing with different options every day. One of our top ten Pousada´s so far !
