But where are the cowboys?

| The thought of visiting more colonial towns was less than inspiring, so it was was on to Durango for a bit of the wild west. Some 160 westerns, and more recent films, have been shot in the area around the city which is classic western territory with cactus covered hills and rocky outcrops. We visited Villa del Oeste, a set used, largely unchanged, for 60 films including classics such as A Man Called Horse, Jeronimo and Chisum and featuring actors including John Wayne, Dean Martin, Sidney Potier and Burt Lancaster. Again we had hoped to get out for at least some walking but it seems you need your own transport and a lot of patience and determination for this sort of thing in Mexico. |
