A Rainy day with friends
Sep 9, 2008
|Yesterday we awoke to a rainy morning, but that would not be allowed to dampen our spirits. We had an outing planned with Kit & Jerry. We were taking them to explore the area. Well, actually, they took us, since they drove and we rode with them.
We began by taking them to a different place for breakfast. Logue’s Restaurant provided . a very tasty hot breakfast for all of us, and then we were ready to roll.
We began with a drive to Monroe City, MO, where we showed them the home we built on the golf course. Then we drove past the company where I had worked for more than 20 years. I explained what the different buildings were, when it was known as Diemakers, Inc, a world class diecasting company.
Next on the agenda was the Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake, along with the Corps of Engineers campground.
Kit & Jerry loved the campgrounds! It is scenic, with large campsites, including full hookup sites. It has all of the amenities you might expect and is a wonderful place to camp. We stopped at an overlook and took a few pictures. If I can, I would like to get some of them posted for you.
We drove back to Hannibal and drove through the River View Park, again stopping for pictures.
By this time, everyone was getting hungry so we drove downtown to the historic district, to have some lunch.
We walked along the street to a restaurant called “Ole Planters”, where we had a tasty and filling lunch. Kit & Jerry split a huge breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and took home a piece of German chocolate pie. Marilyn ate a chicken salad sandwich and I pigged out on a tenderloin sandwich, all by myself.
We then strolled into a kitchen store, owned by a friend of mine. We chatted for awhile and ended up buying a couple of items before we left.
Once we were back in our little home on wheels we just chilled for the remainder of the day.
We watched a little TV in the evening and I went to bed to read, just a little after 9:00 PM.
In spite of the rain and cloudy, gray skies, it was an enjoyable day, spent in the company of good friends. Today the sun will be shining and you know me, I just can’t wait to see what this day has in store…..
