"Halfway" in the USA

Old fashioned wind power

Sod House Museum on the Plains

Kansas Wheatfield

Tonight we are in Dodge City, Kansas. We don't see thousands of longhorn cattle being driven by cowboys up from Texas. Nor have we encountered any outlaws toting six-shooters. We did have an easy trip across the center of the state as it is so flat! I thought parts of Iowa was flat, but Kansas seems to be even more so. I particularly noted that there were few river valleys or creeks to cross, we simply kept going west through corn, wheat and ?sorghum? fields. (There is a 3 foot plant with wide leaves like corn, but then with a very large tassle on top). We bypassed the Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City (although there was a brief moment of lobbying for a side trip). We also missed the underground Salt Dome tour near Hutchinson. We did stop briefly in the middle of the US at Kinsley, KS (please see the photo). I found driving quite enjoyable today as Highway 50 was one of the smoothest surfaces for traveling we have yet encountered (not as much heavy truck traffic as I-80 to chew up the road). The weather is pleasantly cool with highs in the low 80's and lows at night down into the low 60s.
