9:40am, 840 miles since the border, we pulled out of Catemaco in a light rain heading down and south to Villahermosa, the capital of the state of Tabasco. I was nervous about the mountain roads, but they were good, in general easier than the drive up from Veracruz. By noon we were on the toll road and maintaining a nice steady speed on pretty smooth roads. Last time went through here the toll road was under construction and the pot-holes were hellacious... not what you expect when you're paying for a road. This time construction was finished and it took us 2 hours less time to drive the same distance! By 3:15pm we were set-up at the Balneario El Gordo y San Pancho in the western outskirts of Villhermosa. Camping includes free entrance to the pools, so we put on our swim suits and jumped in!
