Thomas, Betsy & Dylan's Travels travel blog

We are leaving Catemaco early tomorrow morning, heading east towards Villahermosa where we'll stop at the Balnario El Pancho y el Gordo for the night. Camping here is primitive; we park in a field and hook-ups consist of a 20amp outlet (just like you'd find inside a house in the USA) and a hose spigot, but the $150 peso fee includes unlimited access to the Balnario (swimming resort) which has a fun kids pool area with slides and waterfalls and a big 'everyone' pool with a big, wide waterslide we can go down as a family.

We're only about 70km from the tollway here, so we're thinking a 5 hour maximum drive time, which will give us most of the afternoon to play in the swimming pools.

Then the following day, depending on how early we get on the road and how smooth the roads are, we will either overnight at Isla Aguada on the peninsula El Palmar, where the laguna de Terminos spills into the gulf. Or we'll keep going to Club Nautico, the upscale but deserted country club / RV resort on the gulf just south of Campeche. After that it's a smooth, easy ride on the tollroads across the Yucatan Peninsula to Paa Mul.

At this point we may not have internet until we reach Paa Mul, so don't worry if you don't get updates for a while.
