We didn't want to leave the Mongolian steppe. It was peaceful, green, dotted with family's gers and their herds. On our way back to the capital we stopped at a national park to search for wild horses. These are called Przewalski horse and are different to the Mongolian horses we've been riding and seeing around. There are 200 in this park, and only 350 in all of Mongolia. They cannot be tamed, they are truly wild horses. The typical characteristics are their short mane and tail, stripes on their legs, a big head with a short thick neck.
We walked about 2kms very quietly before we got to a spot where we found a herd and we were so close to them. We were so fortunate, there were at least 15 of them and there were some foals which were pure white. We sat there for a while watching them graze and move around. Awesome. While in the park we also spotted some deer through binocular and Matty spotted a fox! On our bus ride we also saw plenty of marmot, they were bigger than what I expected, brown and they'd bounce around or hop back into their burrows.
The rest of the day was spent driving all the way back to Ulaan Baatar. It was a long drive, but the scenery of the green steppe is so nice, it was sad to be leaving it.
