Two Hams in a Can travel blog

Now begins our new mode of travel - letting someone else do the driving - this time on Amtrak. We left Dallas about two hours late which is about par for the course for this leg. We had a nice relaxing time in our roomette as Amtrak calls the small space. It's really nice though as it has a nice big window for watching the scenery go by (and this time Jeff can watch too.) We could still see quite a lot of water from the midwest flooding, sometimes very close to the train tracks.

We had a good meal in the dining car, and after the porter made our beds, we slept like the proverbial log. I happen to like the rhythmic motion on the train and it lulled me to sleep quickly.

We had a problem in the morning with the breakfast call as we couldn't hear them announce anything about breakfast from our compartment, and therefore we missed it. Our porter took care of it though bringing breakfast to us, so that worked out ok. Evidently we were not the only passengers to miss out on breakfast. At lunch, they came and got us specifically before they even announced lunch. Unfortunately the A/C decided to go out in our car, and it became quite warm. We escaped to the observation car for the cool.

We got into Union Station in Chicago about four hours late, picked up our rental car and drove to Adam's new apartment. Thank goodness for GPS, we drove right to it. It was great to see Adam and Laura since I hadn't seen them since Christmas. Love their new apartment and the neighborhood (Wrigleyville) looks really nice. Only here for a short time though as tomorrow we leave for Michigan.
