Eeek! The start of the 3 day long Lares trek...I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
Today we woke up early and boarded the tour bus for our 3-hr journey to Qeshwarani, the starting point of our hike. The town itself is very, very small and we set up our lunch tables in the this little courtyard of a school. When school was out, 20 or so little children poured out of the building and approached us with curiousity.
They are all so cute. Many of them are clothed in layers of tattered and torn clothes but are full of smiles and have sunny dispositions. The one thing they also have in common are runny noses and bright red cheeks from the wind burn and cold. Regardless, they are all so cute and adorable. A couple of the kids I took pictures of were playing in this dirty stream, placing bottle caps in the water like sail boats and watching them float down the stream. It broke your heart a little to see how little they have, yet how cute they are.
The trek today was pretty challenging. It was a very steep climb to our first pass and at one point it started drizzling, then hailing. Needless to say, our warmer layers came out and I put on my mittens and beanie. The views though, were well worth the pain my thigh muscles were experiencing! LOL.
We were all very relieved to make the descent and see our tents all set up and ready for us. Today's hike kicked my butt...what will tomorrow's 8-hr trek be like?
