We made a quick stop in Turpan. We did not have a chance to spend much time since we wanted to get to Kashgar for Sunday Market. We hired a car for the day and visited some of the great sites nearby.
We first went to Tuyoq. This is an active village that the Chinese turned into a tourist site. This village produces some of the best grapes in the region! Really tasty and a nice fresh touch to the Chinese experience.
Next we went to the Jiaohe ruins. Really cool and well preserved. It was a 113 degrees in the shade. We had had enough by 5 pm and sent the driver on his way. We had to catch an 11:00am train the next day for Kashgar!
