After my treatment at the Buffalo Davita Dialysis Center, we closed up the coach and took off to Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls was beautiful and the boys were amazed at the amount of water. We spent about 2 hours just walking around on Goat Island enjoying the nice summer day. When we got down by the falls the mist from the falls really cooled us off!

Enjoyed some Dippin Dots check these out, they're really good!

The highlights for me this week was meeting the folks at NxStage. It's difficult to describe the momment I was standing before those employees that have made all of this possible. The gratitude and appreciation for their efforts and hard work could never be expressed adequately in words. I guess in a certain way this trip is one way I can show them how grateful I am.

The purpose and message of this trip is really getting out, the media coverage in each location is great and I hope a number of locations the local media will do a follow up with a local patients that are on the machine. Besides the benefit to the patients that are on dialysis, I really think this machine can be a part of the solution to a pending 'dialysis epidemic' that is approaching.

I don't want to be doom and gloom, but with the rapidly increasing number of people going on dialysis and the centers are approaching capacity something has to happen. More centers can be built but staffing those centers are costly and difficult to hire and train the personnel. Currently the cost of dialysis to the American Taxpayer is 1/8th of the Medicare budget, that only effects about 1% of the Medicare population. With the expanding baby boomers this will only get worse. Studies have shown and my personal experience has demonstrated that this method of dialysis can actually reduce these cost by reducing the cost of delivering the treatment and reduce the overall medical cost by reducing hospital and prescription drug expenses.
