Heading East…
We are heading east now looking to be in Ohio by June 23rd where we will meet up with our best traveling buddies Tony and George Boomer. We have a book naming the best drives across the country and this leg of our journey will take us across two of them, Route 50 from Reno south to Salina Utah where will pick up Route 70 which will take us all the way into Ohio. Route 50 has a sign that says it’s “The loneliest, friendliest road in America” well, for sure everyone we spoke to was very friendly problem was we only passed through 6 or 7 towns on the whole route and I don’t think one of them had a population of over 1,000. But it sure was a gorgeous drive. Route 70 cuts east through the Great Salt Lake area, the Rocky Mountains and the plains of Kansas into the flooded area of Iowa. We have been watching the weather as storms roll in…sometimes just behind us, sometimes ahead of us and sometimes on us…..But we have had more rainy days than not…We pick up Rt 35 in Kansas City, it has just opened and we see evidence of the recent floods everywhere …The poor farmers, their fields are nothing but lakes! I sure hope the rain stops soon~
