Yesterday morning we headed out to Macy’s Department store to do a little shopping and then made our way to Greenwich Village where we wandered about the streets and shops enjoying a wonderful spring day in NYC...after lunch at an out of the way Thai Restaurant, we headed to Bloomingdales to check out the shopping there before making our way back to the hotel for an afternoon siesta...in the evening we wandered back over to Nizza for dinner once more...we had enjoyed it so much two nights earlier that we just had to go back for another sample.....this morning as the four of us arrived back at the hotel after breakfast at the Galaxy Diner on the corner of 9th Avenue and West 46th Street (a great little breakfast spot recommended by the concierge) we ran into Robyn and Dana (who hail from Boston) on the elevator, friends of Peter and Madeline, whom they met on a Mediterranean cruise a couple of years ago and who were joining us for a couple of days in NYC. After Robyn and Dana got settled we headed over to the Empire State Building and caught the express elevator to the 80th floor and then a second elevator to the observation deck on the 86th floor...it looked just like it did in the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”...we took in the view from all directions and marveled at the steady stream of yellow cabs way down on the streets below...we made our way back down to street level and after sampling some famous NYC thin crust pizza for lunch, we jumped on the subway and headed all the way down to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal where we got on board the free ferry service that travels between Lower Manhattan and Staten Island...the ferry took us across the Upper New York Bay past Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty and we had an even better view than we had a couple of days earlier...once across the bay we had to disembark and then cut across the ferry terminal on the Staten Island side to catch a return ferry...back in Lower Manhattan we caught the subway back to 42nd street and our hotel. In the evening we headed out by taxi to Tribeca Grill, a restaurant owned by Robert Deniro in the former meat packing district where we had a very nice dinner and enjoyable evening with Peter and Madeline and our new friends from Boston, Robyn and Dana...
