This morning we jumped on the Downtown Loop bus and wound our way down Broadway past the theatre district, Macy’s Department Store and MSG before heading past The Empire State Building and the Flat Iron Building on our way thru Greenwich Village, the district of Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy and exiting the bus at the World Trade Centre Site, which is now a huge construction area as workmen erect new buildings (on a slightly smaller scale) to replace the Twin Towers which fell to the ground on 9/11...we spent some time at the visitor’s centre before walking down along the Lower Manhattan streets towards Battery Park where we shopped at some street vendor kiosks and then made our way out onto Pier A across from a Maritime Memorial from where we could see the magnificent Lady Liberty herself, out in the harbour where the East River and Hudson River come together in Upper New York Bay. We then walked thru Battery Park along the bottom of Lower Manhattan past the infamous Wall Street to the area of the South Street Seaport where we caught the bus for the Brooklyn Loop which took us over the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn where we stopped at the Old Fulton Landing from where we could see Pier 17 and other buildings across the East River on the Manhattan shore as well as a close up view of the Brooklyn Bridge itself before continuing on our way down Atlantic Avenue towards Flatbush Avenue making a loop around the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and past Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Library before returning over the Manhattan Bridge to the South Street Seaport where we changed buses for our return journey to Midtown...in the evening we had dinner at Ollie’s Sichuan Restaurant on West 42nd Street boasting a “Taste of Chengdu”...a city that we visited while in China...and after dinner jumped on board the red double-decker bus once more for the night tour...unfortunately, the route was a duplication of most of that which we had seen earlier in the day and the guide was a little full of himself...we painfully endured the ride since we didn’t feel like getting off and making our way back to the hotel on our own and wished that the tour had ended before it had even begun...upon our return to Times Square we visited the M&M store on Broadway for a chocolate nightcap before bed.....
