2008 Exploring The Northwest travel blog

We arrived here in Gillette on the 25th and settled in. We had a very busy, fun time and the town of Gillette was so welcoming. We (the whole 1200 rigs of us) stayed over the Fourth of July and participated in their celebration. It began with a free pancake breakfast at 5 am (most of the servers were Skps), a parade later in the morning in which we entered a float and the founders of the Escapees rode on it, and free hot dogs for lunch. Then later in the evening the fireworks began. The official city fireworks began at 10 pm but all around the CamPlex where we were parked there were fireworks going off from about 8 pm and it kept up til midnight. And, not just little backyard ones, but huge "shootem up into the sky like the pros" fireworks. We have never seen such a show.

Teddy had a wonderful time here. Every walk he got to "socialize" with other dogs. He loved it. Big dogs, little dogs, he was right there and for 1200 rigs in attendance there were probably nearly as many dogs there. Some people travel with 3 or more. It is all we can do to handle one feisty little 2 year old cockapoo.

We stayed for a workshop on Saturday as we have agreed to be representatives formally of the Escapees RV Club. As we travel around we will visit various rallys and act as liasons between the club and its members. We think it should be fun and interesting meeting a lot of new friends along the way.
