Hitching a boat ride back to town

First of all - weather - since we have been in Malaysia, it has rained every day about 2:00pm for a couple of hours. No big deal. So we went to Bako NP and had two great days of complete sun! Our first day we did a 9-hour jungle trek - We got our first glimpse of the rare Proboscis monkeys. They are so cool! Long noses and very playful. This was the first time we had seen monkeys in the wild (not like Kathmandu, Nepal and the monkey temple). We were pretty wiped out and had a quick dinner and went to bed.

We got up early the next day (I--Clay--have been getting up everyday at 5:30am) and I dragged Donna out to look for more of the very rare Proboscis monkeys early in the morning. We got a treat. We hiked about a mile and finally heard them in the jungle. We stayed still and watched them (12 monkeys including a male) play and eat right above us for over an hour. It was getting pretty scary since they were about 10 feet above our heads. Amazing. We later met up with some friends from Holland and went to look for more. The morning session was the best. We hiked to a nearby beach and hitched a boat ride back to the main headquarters. We then searched for a monitor (a large lizard about 2 meters long) and saw 2 behind the canteen. We also saw some silver leaf monkeys just as we left to get our boat back to Kuching.

We saw it all, Proboscis monkeys, Macaque monkeys, SIlver leaf monkeys, a giant Monitor lizard, a bearded pig (this dude was ugly), and poisonous green pit viper snakes (male and female).

I have to say Bako was incredible! Jungle treking and lots of wildlife!

We headed back to Kuching and caught a flight to Kota Kinabalu!
