Ethiopia in a Week travel blog

KaraMara

Well, we made after 2 hour long delays, running through the Dulles airport to get our connecting flight (Well, Nick ran but I walked fast), 20 hours sitting on planes, and getting to know Iman the 7 year-old girl sitting behind us going to visit her Grandmother in Addis Ababa. Unfortunately, our luggage did not make it....:( So, hopefully, it should be here in the morning as that's when the next flight from Washington DC arrives. (Note - it's true, bring a change of clothes on the plane with you, we wish we had.)

Went to dinner tonight once we got to our hotel, the Queen of Sheba. It was a restaurant/bar where they play traditional music, songs, and dance. (KaraMara)Mostly locals were there; I believe we were the only tourists. The music reminded me a bit of New Orleans Zydecko. It was getting pretty busy as we left but it was fun. They dance a lot with their shoulders. I even danced a little while Nick took a picture but luckily it wasn't a good shot. As for pictures, while we have the camera, the connecting wire is in our luggage. Perhaps we'll add pictures another day. The ride in a taxi added an extra thrill because the driver was driving with no lights and I think he was afraid to stop since to get back to the hotel, he first had to start the taxi with the battery from another car. We made it back safe and now have a story to add to our collection.

As for our hotel this evening, the Queen of Sheba, as Nick put it, it is a traditional African hotel. That's fine with us since we are in Ethiopia but it's not like staying at the Hilton. It's got personality though so we are getting a taste of "the life".

We thought about talking to a travel agent to arrange the rest of our trip. It depends on our luggage a bit but if we have our way, we'll probably be leaving for Laribela sometime tomorrow. More on our itnerary when we make it.

That's the first day log. We arrived safely and are getting a feel for "the life" Have a good night.
