Knaus Camping Ground, Nurnberg, Germany.
Woke up this morning not feeling the best. Have caught a cold and spent most of the night tossing and turning. Spent the day sniffing and using a rain forest worth of paper tissues.
It rained most of the night and temperatures were a bit lower than Berlin. Quite noisy in the campervan (wonns mobile) when it rains.
Had breakfast. Toast (burnt over the gas stove) and peanut butter plus boiled eggs. We are eating pretty well and are managing to stay away from the bad food.
Went and got directions from the receptionist so that we could get in to the city by 9:30 to get a City Bus Tour. Let us say that there may have been a problem with translation as she sent us in the completely opposite direction to find the U-Bahn Station. We found it in the end (after quite a bit of walking and map reading) but we missed the tour. We have decided that now we know where we are going we will do the tour tomorrow.
The public transport here is very good. It cost Rowena and I only 6.4 Euro (all up) to travel as far and as often as we wanted within the one day. The U-Bahn runs often and is pretty safe and clean.
On getting to the city centre we had a bit of a walk along the Old City Main Road, took a few photos and marvelled at the old buildings. We stopped and had an iced coffee and a large pretzel thing (that was real yummy) and walked a bit more.
We found a market outside a very old church and bought some fruit and vegetables. Once again I can’t get over how cheap things are here. Only 2.5 Euros (NZ$5) for a huge punnet of strawberries (dessert tonight).
We then caught the U-Bahn to its far end and went to a shopping mall. We are still trying to find a small cheap toaster but there just does not seem to be such a thing here.
The mall was full of old cars on display and I took a few photos of them. Had a good look around and Rowena bought some cheap tops.
Back to the U-Bahn and the walk home to the camp. Hardly had to wait at any time at any of the U-Bahn Stations. It seemed as if there was always a train coming in the next couple of minutes.
At the camp I cleaned out the camper van’s toilet unit (OH MY GOD!!) and Rowena did the dishes. About 4pm it started to rain and that kept up for a while.
We crashed early.
