2008 Trip to Virginia travel blog

Jun 28, 2008 – Saturday – Our Anniversary

Well, we celebrated our 39th today and what a better way to celebrate it than by connecting with our daughter and son-in-law and his family.

We arose around 0730 this morning and I awoke realizing I had not calculated all my remaining diesel stops between here and home so I got busy figuring that out. This task ended up almost making us late for our departure. We departed at 0945 for “The Lake Place” to connect with Ann & John, John’s parents and his sister and her 3 boys. We arrived in time for the cinnamon roll breakfast. The cinnamon rolls were locally made and were very good beating out Cinnabon for sure.

We spent the rest of the day visiting and enjoying the 3 boys while we watched it rain and the wind blow. It only got up to 61 today and the wind was strong enough to almost create white caps on the lake so there was no one boating or skiing today on the lake. Ann looked at our trip pictures as I had brought the laptop. John’s folks had been working very hard this spring on getting a major change done to their lake home. They replaced the existing screened porch off the living room as an extension of the living room. The screened porch was moved down and out from the extension and now you need to go out and down the deck to get to the screened room but it is all very nice and done in very nice local woods. But, we did not get any time on the lake or on the dock today so that was not a good thing as this is a beautiful lake with Loons and Bald Eagles to look at and watch.

The main meal of the day was at 1430 which took care of lunch/supper and it was a nice meal followed by a rhubarb pie that as usual was very good. We were getting ready to leave around 1800 so they could enjoy their evening and the youngest boy, who has unharnessed energy, tore across the living room and promptly banged his head into the corner of a built-in desk. This resulted in an instant rush to determine how bad he banged his head and remarkably his mother, at least outwardly, very calmly took over and inspected his head to determine if a visit to the emergency room was necessary. There was blood and split skin but not bad enough to require stitches so his mother declared that he would be ok. Of course his 2 brothers also inspected the condition and declared him to have joined them as their newly battle scarred brother and proceeded to describe to me their wounds they have received.

Day and I managed to leave under less than desirable chaotic conditions which meant we were not able to convey our appropriate good bye’s to all. We will see Ann & John the last part of July after they get back home for the rest of their summer so that will be time that we will look forward to. Now is the time for them to enjoy being with John’s family.

Day and I got back to the trailer and settled in for the evening of reading and then sleep.
