Back to the I-90 tollway again, at least until we got out of Illinois and into Wisconsin. The service plazas in Illinois are built over the roadways - different. Found a pleasant surprise when we stopped for coffee at Edgerton, Wisconsin. (And spared a thought for Uncle Hop, who hails from Edgerton, Ohio.) The “Wisconsin Wine and Cheese Chalet” is a treasure-trove of goodies, with many kinds of cheese, wine and other calorie-laden snacks. Guiltily, we limited ourselves to coffee only, and when we asked if there was a place to sit, were directed to the patio at the back. What a lovely little spot! We had the garden all to ourselves, except for the birds and a curious but shy chipmunk. Mike especially liked the unusual “sprung” garden chairs – very comfortable.

The scenery began to change in Wisconsin – many more hills and lovely valleys. The area around the Wisconsin “dells” looked very English (like the Lake Country?). We got to our Best Western at Rice Lake about 3:00 p.m., then spent the next couple of hours looking for a new battery for Mike’s camera. (Finally found the battery, but sadly the camera is still defunct – will have to be diagnosed after we get home.) To honor our friends, Mike and Sigi, we had dinner at the Norske Nook restaurant.

Tomorrow night, we will be in Canada. I do not know what kind of internet access, if any, there will be so it may be several days before the next update. Keep checking!
