Mt Shasta - from the truck traveling up the 5 fwy

Our campsite

Klamath River

We woke up this morning to a cool, smokey morning. Scott is getting a lot better when traveling and did not insist that we leave before the Rooster woke up. We had a nice slow morning and pulled out around 8:00am. We drove up the 99 to the 5 freeway. It was very smokey past Williams due to the many fires. One hill that we passed just North of Redding was engulfed. Fortunately the fire was going away from town. We stopped for gas in the Redding area and then drove over to the airport to make some sandwiches. Scott needed to be near an airplane. Withdrawals you know. After that we headed up the 5 thru Shasta. The lake is very low this year. It was kinda sad. We did see Bambi eating at the side of the road, which cheered me up. As we drove through the Shasta area we reminisced about our flight in our little plane a few years ago over that same area. It is amazing the different perspectives you get from the air and then the ground. I enjoyed looking at all the trees growing so close together and in such abundance, but it is funny to see trees growing straight up. I thought they were supposed to lean towards the East. Maybe that is just an Antelope Valley thing huh? We are currently camped at Blue Heron RV Park along the Klamath River. The campsite is beautiful. The sites are large and well equipped. We took our chairs to the rivers edge and listened to the rushing water. We even saw a rowboat float by with fly fishermen aboard. This is the life.

It's time for dinner now so I will sign off for the evening. I will write tomorrow when we arrive in Washington. Pet Cessna for me and tell her mamma misses her.
