Forest Lake Preserve Boondoggle travel blog

After a relaxing evenning last night, we awoke to a nice morning. It is surprising how a gentle breeze, with the sun going down can lull you into such a peaceful state.

Anyway, our "tour" started at 11:30 AM. After to the obligitory "I'm your best buddy" routine, we had our hot dog and continued on with the pitch. As always, they had the form to fill out that proves to the management that the sales person is hitting on all the right points.

The pitch/tour lasted about 90 minutes with the inevitable push by management. The price started at $18,900 and went to $12,900 in a blink of an eye. What boggles my mind is that people pay for this stuff. What I did learn, this week, though, is that some motor home companies are using this gimmick to sell motor homes. Companys "give away" memberships to Thousand Trails to sell their motor homes. That, I can understand. But, of course, I did not learn this stuff from Thousand Trails. One of the campers we met told me.

Thousand Trails representatives were none to gentle during the sales push and seemed offended by our "No", but I am sure they got over it in time for the next sucker to show up.

Anyway, we got our 30 days worth of vacation time and our $50 Shell card, that paid for the gas to get there.

The day continued nice and I got my swimming in on Saturday.

We were, as usual, the only small camper in the park and we met a number of folks that came by and wanted to see what we had. We showed it off, gave away a few brochures and generally enjoyed their company. Bernadette, as usual, prepared a great dinner and we relaxed throughout the evenning, listing to my new IPod and portable speaker system I bought for outside listening.

I guess our free weekend cost us, again. I can't think of much more we have to buy to make our camping experience the best it can be.
