First Optional tour highlight – “ATM” caving, absolutely superb! A 45 minute hike through the jungle with 4 river crossings before arriving at the entrance of the cave. We swam into the cave and then had over an hour of caving and wading through water before arriving at a Mayan ruin underground. The climax of the underground ruin was seeing the skeletal remains of the “Mayan Princess” Then the journey back through the water and caves – started to get a bit cold at this point but enjoyed the swim in the entrance to the cave on the way out.
Bus trip and 1 hour boat journey to Caye Caulker – a tropical island paradise. Beautiful water to swim in, lobster in abundance and as cheap as I’ve ever paid for it. Also happy hour on the banana dacqeries. Shared a room with Fran here with the hotel being right on the seafront.
Went out for dinner with the group and our table won the local trivia quiz . A great night other than a big crab running around the restaurant floor which was a little unnerving when only wearing Birkenstock sandals. A few of us went on to a club for a beer and game of Darts! Ash had too much to drink before having to be carried home.
On the second day here most people went to Dive the “Blue Hole” or snorkelling. I had a rest day on the beach
