Cassiar Hwy - Glacial Coast Mountains

Bear Glacier near Stewart, B.C.

We continued on the Cassiar Highway. After the first two hours the road smoothed out. We stopped occasionally for pics and to pick up rocks (Gamma River). The scenery kept getting better as we got into the Glacial Coast Mountains. There were lots of lakes, hard running rivers, waterfalls, glaciers, and wild flowers. We had two bear sightings, one porcupine, and one bald eagle.

We got into Stewart, B.C. and washed the RV and hit the grocery store. The Toaster Museum was closed, a real disappointment to Linda. We continued on 2.3 miles to Hyder, AK. We took pictures of this little mining town, known as the littlest ghost town in AK, took pics of the oldest masonry building in AK and visited the general store. We actually had to go through Canadian customs again to return to Stewart, BC.

We are now in Meziadin Provincial Park beside the lake. It’s beautiful, peaceful and full of mosquitoes. Another wonderful day on the road. Traveled 228 miles.
