Today was spent wandering around the street markets. We were thinking of taking a beautiful cruise down the Li River but due to some flooding thought twice! Early afternoon we were taken through a fresh food market... That was an experience. The meat market was too horrifc to explain by western standards. Shortly after we took a short ride to a cooking school. This was much more pleasent! We had the opportunity to learn how to cook real Chinese food in a traditional setting. The School is located in the village of Chao Long, about 5km from Yangshuo. Chao Long is a traditional farming village and the School is housed in a renovated mud brick farmers house.

Pam who runs the school is a Sydney sider who landed here about 8 years ago and started up her dream in this beautiful little village. After many years running a successful catering business in Sydney, she felt the urge to travel in China. She now lives in a renovated mudbrick courtyard-house in Chaolong village, next to the cooking school.

Chinese cuisine has a history of thousands of years and with really distinctive regional differences. Very much different to the Chinese cuisine we know in Aussie. The cuisine of Guanxi Province is simple but extremely tasty using the amazing variety of food that is produced in the area. Although a fairly simple day I am tired and am heading to bed early. The acomodation here is simply and very comfortable.
