Lets see....last time I blogged, we had landed in Loveland, CO, and done the Ridge Trail Road, right? Well, we drove from Loveland to Saratoga, Wyoming to soak in the Saratoga Hot Springs! Can you believe it? Saratoga was about 200 miles from Loveland, so it made a nice half day drive, and we arrived there midday Sunday, July 15. We had a space right on the North Platte River, which was roaring with spring runoff. The rafters and fishermen were floating VERY fast down the river.
Saratoga is a small town-its main industry is shooting all kinds of game and fish. We updated some prescriptions in the local grocery store/pharmacy, and every available space on the interior walls had a moose head, elk head, duck, goose, fish, oh well, you get the picture. The hot springs were run by the city on a donation basis-the pool was about 25 feet by 30 feet, and about waist deep. And, was it HOT! Turns out that the city doesn't add much cool water to what comes out of the ground at 110 to 115 degrees, (it was said to be especially nice in the winter) so after trying to get into the water Sunday, we were advised to come back after dark or early morning for the best results....actually, that was good information, and although extremely hot still, we both managed to get a 20 to 30 minute soak in several times. Gene says its kind of like exercise without all the effort, since the warm water makes your heart beat faster, and they say it helps your circulation. Only thing I know is I like it, and thats good enough for me!
Anyway, we kind of whiled away two days without any internet services-it was nice sitting by the river, and today, we drove about 350 miles to Hoback Junction which is 12 miles from Jackson Hole. Our plan is to stop in Jackson tomorrow morning for provisions and then into Grand Tetons National Park for a few days, without electricity or water, and then on the Yellowsone. We probably won't have internet service, though we were surprised to find it in a couple of the other National Parks. Stay tuned. I can tell you from the incredible scenery we've encountered the last 20 to 30 miles, that we're going to love this place!
