Had a great day yesterday with the kids. Hung around at the house. Boy was it windy. Weather said 31 MPH winds with gusts to 45. Was that the truth! It's to be better today.
We had dinner at Don's Restaurant in Protection last night. It was Mexican food night & very good. Don's is known for their pies. But, they were out tonight, so we didn't get to try any.
Andi & the girls are raising chickens. It's quite interesting. They ordered 50 layers from a place in Ohio over the internet. They got a call one day & the chick babies arrived the next! The were just tiny. Today they are about 2 week old. Andi has been reading up on them & what to do. They also received 25 free ones that will be for broilers. They are separate from the layers. She was explaining about how she feeds & waters them 2 times a day. In the future, she will use some thing that Bill (father-in-law) built to finish feeding them. The broilers will be killed at age 2 months. Seems young, but she has read up on all that.
We turned on the generator as it got too hot yesterday, even with the wind. But, at night we did turn it off & opened the windows.
A tornado went through Salina, Chapman & Manhattan yesterday. In Chapman, 2 ladies were killed. Last night, I was awake a lot! It was so windy all night. First, it was awful from the south then all of a sudden it came strong from the north! Amazing! I was quite worried all night long. I thought we might be blown away!
There was a tornado that went through a boy scout camp in SW Iowa. Four boys were killed. It is a bad time this year for tornadoes. Too many of them.
The wind blew out the pilot light for the refrigerator. So, we had to get that going before taking off this morning. This put us way late in getting on the road. We did get it done, then we just stopped at Dave’s Pizza for lunch in Coldwater, KS. Therefore, we didn’t get very far before lunch. Billie called while we were waiting for our pizza. She was heading to Wichita & thought maybe we’d be farther along the road than we were. We were to keep in touch today, but haven’t heard back from her as of now, 6:00pm.
It was a good day traveling. The wind was not bad at all. I hope the night will be better!
Our trip today took us through Greensburg, KS, where the tornado went through last spring & demolished the town. The damage is still quite visible, but you can also see that people are building back. On the road past Greensburg, we met on the road a "CBS motorhome".
Billie, my sister, was in El Dorado today. We talked on the phone several times because she was going to go back home. The storms were going right through where she lives, too! She talked to 2 people there and they told her when it might be safe to head home. Hail & rain were coming down there and a possible tornado. She did finally get home ok. JR, my brother, called me to see what was happening because he had just talked with Darla, our cousin, & she told him we are in Wichita. Billie called JR while he was talking with me.
We had weather here. There was a tornado south of Wichita, but we were ok up here north. Sure scary around these parts! We did have lots of rain!
We had pizza for dinner tonight, left over from lunch since we bought a large one for $15.95!
We drove 150 miles today from Protection to Wichita.
