Game over - Nats lose

I went to the Nats game with my friend Shana Fitzpatrick & her boyfriend Josh tonight. It had been quite some time since I had seen Shana & it was nice to see her again. I had never met Josh & he seems like a very nice guy & a “keeper” for her. You treat her right Josh! They met playing kickball, as ONLY Shana would do, a couple years ago & still going strong.

Before I go into the park & game; I would like to say here that the weather is HOT & MUGGY here with no relief until after Wednesday! I think the temperature was 86 at the start of the game after hitting a high of 92, with the humidity somewhere above 95%, today.

The ballpark is very new & opened just a couple months ago. Josh said it holds about 45,000 people; but it looks MUCH larger than Angels’ stadium that seats just a little over 44K, I think. They have a wide variety of foods in their concession stands. Shana especially likes the Ben’s Chili Bowl chili dogs. I think Josh also said the area used to be a shipyard & there are many new buildings being constructed in the park’s surroundings. The Metro is conveniently located just a short block from the centerfield gate & there will soon be many restaurants & bars on Half Street between the two.

Ok, that’s enough about the new park. Now they need to work on the team! They are 11.5 games out of first right now behind Philadelphia & they played like it tonight. As much as I hate to say it, Jerry, they lost 10 to 1 to a team named the Giants from somewhere in California.

Their fielding left much to be desired &, as the score indicates, they seem to be hurting in offense also. I must say that the day/night before they did play a rainout makeup game during the day & a regular game followed. They split the games but won the night game in the 10th inning with a walk off home run. They also used 3 pitchers in the first & 6 in the second. So I guess we can give them some slack – MAYBE.

I would like to make a point that my original schedule had me going to the game last night; but Shana emailed me a while back & asked if we could go to tonight’s game instead since they had a softball scheduled & really didn’t want to miss it. Thanks Shana! JUST KIDDING.

I probably won’t check backing until after the Oriole’s game next Friday,

Ray
