050208 We got up, had coffee and then since everyone was working we decided to go see some of the area. One of the things we remembered about the Dallas Metro area is that there are only a coupe of wet counties (where booze can be procured) and the rest are dry (where you are out of luck!!). Since Greg is running low on rum and Ginny on Vodka (OH HORRORS!!) we decided to go find the Colonies which is in a wet county and when we lived here, had places to stock up on booze. So we headed out on a mission to stock up. On the way, we stopped by the “Saltgrass” restaurant. We had one near us when we lived in Plano and we remembered that it was a pretty good steakhouse. We decided after our lunch that Greg’s chopped steak was the best tasting item that we had. Ginny had a steak salad but surprisingly, the chopped steak was better.
Then we continued on the trek to the Colonies. The Colonies used to be a lonely place outside of Plano when we lived there, with not much except a couple of liquor stores, a lot of dust and a water tower. We had traffic jams getting there and everywhere there were traffic lights buildings, civilization and a bunch of road construction. This is a well established city here!! Greg has a special hate for traffic lights as most of them turn red just for him. He has gotten a huge persecution complex about them. When we finally got there, we picked the first liquor store we found and went in. Greg (still steaming about the traffic light persecution) went and got his stuff with no problem or interference. It must have been the look on his face. Ginny however, immediately made a friend of one of the store attendants. She made the mistake of telling him that she wanted to get the ingredients for Margherita’s. He immediately glommed on to her and took her on a tour of Tequila’s and mixes. She could have just gotten Quervo gold but ended up getting this more expensive brand. It actually wasn’t bad when we tasted it. The mix that he recommended (and she got) however was only so-so, so we ended up getting some other stuff. Greg thinks he will just stick to his rum and cokes.
