Game over- Bucs lose

Hi all,

There was a serious threat of a rainout tonight but they got the game in anyway! It started raining pretty hard (for a Southern California boy anyway) just as I neared the city form the Southeast. Naturally I was getting there early so I still had hope that it would stop before the game. So I got a parking spot & read my book for a while. The rain slowed so I went into the ballpark to check it out, even if they didn’t play a game. I was hoping that they did because tomorrow’s weather forecast didn’t look too good either.

The game DID start on time but it drizzled from the 2nd inning through the 9th. Sometime pretty hard & other times just a few drops. But the field crew earned their money tonight! Being from Southern CA I don’t think I have ever seen a field crew work so hard. They were out spreading kitty litter, I think that is what it was, between every inning from the 4th on.

The bucs just couldn’t get things going last night & lost the game 2 to 0. I think the radio announcers said that was the first game the Pirates had been skunked this year. Until last night, they were the last team in the National League not to have scored at least 1 run in a game this year. Their starting pitcher did a good job but the offense just couldn’t score runs. Oh well, there weren’t any errors on either team with a ball that had to be very slippery with all that precipitation. Also, the ground must have been saturated & their footing questionable. But I didn’t see any plays that indicated that fact.

I don’t know if the weather kept people away but attendance was only 13,180. And most of them, including myself, had scattered for shelter from the rain early & stayed there throughout the game. I only had to move back about 10 rows from my good seat to keep dry. So it was no big deal.

While I was moving back, I had another Angels fan sighting! He had on an Angels hat & his buddy had a USC hat. I didn’t stop to talk to them but I did acknowledge the Angel fan with a nod. I wish I had my UCLA pullover on for the SC guy! Sorry for that last comment Mark.

As far as the photos go, I have to be honest & tell you that the first few shots were taken yesterday. That is why the weather looks better. As if you couldn’t figure that out yourself! Just had to be honest.

Anyway, tomorrow’s trip will be a short one to DC. I just hope the weather isn’t too bad while I hook up & then get on the road. Speaking of on the road, I failed to mention on Saturday that I broke the 5,000 (actually 5,020) miles marker on Dagney for this trip when I pulled into the campground here!

I will check in after I get to DC,

Ray
