We made it to Hutch, as the locals call it here. We got here early enough to make it to our primary reason for coming here. "UNDERGROUND SALT MINE/MUSEUM". As Marianne puts it, another one of Lenny's strange places to visit. We stopped at a Welcome Center on I-35, and mentioned to the woman our destination, and she asked me if I would like some Tickets, worth $13.95 each, of course you knew my answer. As Marianne put it, only Len gets the deals. LOL Anyway, we got our hard hats, and special breathing apparatus, as required by the US Bureau of Mines. Got in the elevator, and descended 650 ft. to the start of the mine. It just seemed to leave you with a question, 'will the ceiling come down' ? We were informed that the way it was dug out never. I hope never. We got on our tram, just like in Disney World, and rode into the darkness. It was so dark, that my watch dial, seemed to have a spot light on it. These tunnels were started somewhere around 1900.The tunnel actually goes around 694 miles long, all the way to New Mexico. The salt winds up on your diner table, melts salt in Chicago, and is used in animal feeds. We played miner and brought some out of the mine, safely. Tomorrow we will be going to the Cosmosphere, here in Hutch. Tonight we are in our favorite overnight stop, WALMART.
