Day 1 May 13th

Well, the day finally came for us to leave on our Alaska trip. The morning was spent doing last minute things – and I always think of lots of those. By leaving a little later, I was able to feel very comfortable that I left the house (for 7 weeks) the way I wanted, and remembered everything I wanted to take and do for the trip.

We left Brighton, Michigan at 12:45P.M, drove up I 75 across the Mackinaw Bridge (very pretty – see picture) and into the upper peninsula (UP) of Michigan. We drove only 255 miles today – plenty for the 1st day for us. We arrived at the St. Ignace KOA campground at about 6 P.M. There were a couple areas of construction and we stopped and had lunch.

We are now relaxing and will get an earlier start tomorrow.
