Living on the Leichhardt side of the Hawthorne Canal, and spending a chunk of each and every day walking alongside the watercourse with two dogs, it is inevitable that the issue of canals would capture my interest while in India. it did come as a bit of a shock in Chennai, and beyond, to see how polluted, how choked with rubbish and water weeds the canals were. Therein lies one mighty challenge for humankind.
