Woke up early to get the bus to Chongqing. Needn't have bothered - there were only a few people on the bus so we waited for some more passengers. After about 30 minutes the driver asked everyone to get on the bus as we were about to leave. 15 minutes later everybody got off again. 10 minutes later the driver asked everyone to get on the bus as we were about to leave. 10 minutes after that we actually left.
A brand new expressway past paddy fields all the way brought us to Chongqing on the Yangtse River by lunchtime. The Yangtse is the third largest river in the world and this is where they've built the Three Gorges Dam. I hope to go down through the gorges the day after tomorrow.
Chongqing is also about the size of Melbourne with a very confusing street plan making navigation a bit difficult. There is a smoggy haze over the city (like Chengdu) which I think is exacerbated by the burning of dry stubble in the rice fields in the countryside.
